FAQ
Short answers to the questions we get most. If yours is not here, email setpile@gmail.com or call 786-325-1325, Mon–Fri 9am–5pm ET.
Buying from us
Are these units new?
Yes. Every unit is new, in the original packaging, with the manufacturer's kit. We do not sell open-box, refurbished, or scratch-and-dent units.
Are you Costway?
No. The Mini Split Shop is an independent reseller run by Setpile Corp in Coral Springs, Florida. We buy Costway mini splits through a wholesale supplier and sell them to you. Costway is a trademark of its owner. Warranty coverage comes from the manufacturer; we help you open the claim.
Why is your price different from Costway.com?
Each unit is priced $10 under the MSRP Costway publishes for that model, with freight to the lower 48 included. Costway's own site runs its own promotions, and those come and go. Our price is the same every day. Sales tax is added at checkout where we have to collect it.
What if the unit I want is out of stock?
The quantity on each product page is the supplier's live count. If it reads 0, email us; we can check the next inbound. If stock runs out after you order, we email you within 4 business hours with a choice: cancel for a full refund, or wait for the restock.
What payments do you take, and do you charge sales tax?
Checkout runs on Shopify Payments: major cards, Shop Pay, and Apple Pay or Google Pay where available. Sales tax is collected where the law requires it. We are a Florida business, so Florida orders are taxed; other states are taxed where we are registered to collect. Checkout shows the amount before you pay.
Shipping and delivery
How does shipping work, and how long does it take?
Freight is free to the contiguous US. After checkout we place the order with our supplier, and the supplier's freight partner (often an LTL carrier) picks it up. We email tracking when the supplier scans the freight bill. Typical transit is 3–7 business days after that scan. Delivery is usually curbside. See the Shipping page.
Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico?
No. We ship to the contiguous US (lower 48) only. No Alaska, Hawaii, US territories including Puerto Rico, or PO boxes.
What does curbside delivery mean?
The truck brings the pallet to the curb or the end of your driveway. The driver does not carry it inside, into a garage, or up steps. A liftgate and a delivery appointment are not guaranteed unless the supplier books them. Have someone there who can receive a heavy outdoor condenser and an indoor unit.
What if the unit arrives damaged?
Inspect the cartons before the driver leaves and write any damage on the proof of delivery (POD) before you sign. Then email us within 48 hours with your order number, the MPN, and photos. We open the claim with the manufacturer or supplier. You do not pay freight on a unit that arrived damaged.
Returns and warranty
Can I return a unit? Is there a restocking fee?
Yes, within 30 days of delivery, if it is unopened, unused, and in the original packaging with every kit part. There is no restocking fee. You book and pay the return freight, and we refund the product price within 10 business days of receiving the unit. Installed units, or units where refrigerant has been handled, cannot be returned. See the Returns page.
How long is the warranty?
It is the manufacturer's limited warranty from Costway, passed through to you. Coverage varies by model, so the exact years for each unit are printed on its product page under Warranty. Labor and installation are not covered. Keep your invoice as proof of purchase. See the Warranty page.
Choosing and installing
Can I install it myself?
We sell equipment only and recommend installation by an EPA Section 608 certified HVAC technician. These systems use refrigerant and high-voltage circuits. An incorrect install can void the manufacturer warranty and create a leak or shock hazard, and it is not covered by Setpile Corp. Some jurisdictions require permits. See the Installation page.
115V or 208–230V: which do I need?
Pick voltage by the circuit you have or will run. 115V units, usually 9k to 12k BTU, run on a dedicated 115V circuit. 208–230V units, which means most 12k and up, need a dedicated two-pole breaker and a disconnect, and they do not plug into a wall outlet. If you are not sure what you have, ask an electrician before you order.
What size do I need?
As a starting point: 9k BTU for 350–450 sq ft, 12k for 450–750, 18k for 750–1,100, 24k for 1,100–1,500. Go up a size for high ceilings, sun-facing rooms, poor insulation, kitchens, or Florida and Gulf humidity. For a whole floor, get a Manual J load calculation from a tech. See the Sizing Guide.
Does it have WiFi or work with Alexa?
Some models do. Check the spec list on the product page. If WiFi or an app is listed, the unit works with the manufacturer's app, and any voice assistant support is listed there too. We do not add or guarantee smart-home features beyond what the manufacturer lists.
What does Energy Star mean on a listing?
Energy Star is a US EPA label for products that meet set efficiency levels. For a mini split that means its SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings clear the program's thresholds. If a model carries the label, the product page says so. Rebates and tax credits depend on your utility and your tax situation; we do not certify eligibility.
